Custom breaking point in dynamic post content

Hi,

I have created a template for my blog posts that works and (at least to me) looks great.

However I’d like to use the dynamic post content block with a break-point. So for example there’s a post content block A, to show a half of the content, and then there’s another post content block B that could show the second half of the same content. So that you could for example insert into the content a banner, etc.

I wonder if it’s possible?

Thanks

Hi there,

I'm not exactly sure what you mean.

The Block Element - content template applies to ALL the posts on the post list within the Blog index page.

We can't selectively apply it only on specific posts.

Are you trying to do multiple post lists? If that's the case, you'll need a post list plugin.

Any chance you can share a mockup image of what you mean? In case I missed the point. Thanks. :)

Hi Elvin, thanks the fast reply. No, it’s me with my strange question :-)

Imagine a Content Template in Elements to design the look of your blog posts. In order to use dynamic content you use a post content block. But you would like to have, lets say, a banner inserted somewhere in the middle of your content. I know I could use ad-inserter plugins, I don’t want to do that. A kind of specific breaking point or insertion point with the Post Content block would give me more control to insert a banner (or a regular piece of content into the content).
Thanks.

I see.

Well, we can always create a portable hook to add on the content template but the issue is, the portable hook will apply to each posts.

Meaning, say if you use this portable hook for ads, the ads will appear on every posts on the post list.

If you want to set a particular sequence on when the ads will appear, we can't selectively do that on the post list through the Block element.

Say, for example, you want the ad to appear every 4 posts. There's no "if/else" condition within the Block element UI for this.

But, you can try applying it to posts with post terms or custom fields using the "Apply to" dropdown as shown here. https://share.getcloudapp.com/Wnu0xYYA

I see what you mean…

My “wonderful” content template is already using a few custom fields around the main content block. On the other hand I believe I have read somewhere that Tom perhaps is working on some update on GP that is going to allow some insertions, but of course I might be wrong about that. Anyways, thanks for your help.

I'm not sure when will this be released but I'm sure Tom's aware of the current limitations and is thinking about it. :D

This'll likely come after the next major release of GP.

No problem. Glad to be of any help.
