Creating a side bar layout for specific posts

Hi there!
I have a question about setting up a sidebar for specific pages.
My overall theme uses a contained width of 800p, no sidebar.
I tried setting up a Layout element for certain posts that applies a sidebar and a larger width (1200p). But for some reason, the width does not seem to extend past 800p.
Is there a way to do this with the Layout element easily?

Set the larger width using the customizer setting:

Then set the smaller width using a layout element:
