Could Not Add Title on Any Post or CPT
5 replies · Started by Burt on September 10, 2021
FYI I was unable to add a Title to any new post or CPT in the Gutenberg editor. I have Elementor Pro installed and the beta version of GP Version: 2.1.0-alpha.1.
Uninstalled all the plugins - including GP Pro beta - still the same problem. Uninstalled GeneratePress theme and was able to add the title to the new post and pages.
Reinstalled GP theme and used the regular version of GP Pro - problem persisted. I used the advanced options to reset the theme, starting with Core only. Reset Core, and I was able to add the Title to the post again.
Before deactivating the plugins, I took a backup, reinstalled it, replaced the beta GP plugin, and reset the core. I was able to add titles again.
Again, just an FYI - not sure what Core reset resets.
Hi Burt,
Let's check a few things:
Can you link us to a sample page where this occurs? So we can inspect the page and have a better idea of what's happening to the title. :D
Do you have any filters, child theme templates, or GP Elements active?
I would like to, but everything is working. The title could not be added on all the Post, Pages, and CPT - There were no active filters, child themes, nor GP Elements. I believe it began to happen when I clicked the beta update on the GP Pro plugin.
I do have a saved copy of the Core setting.
You had this toggled - "hide_title":true. Were you using a Block Element - page hero or any templating options?
This removes the page/post title of the page added by the default theme.
This normally is toggled on when you plan to add your own title manually somewhere on the Block Element using either a shortcode or by using Dynamic values on GenerateBlocks to display it.
But to check further. By "could not add title..." did you mean the dynamic value for blocks isn't working when you tried to add a Dynamic title on a Block?
You are correct - normally, if I am using Elementor, I block the title on the front end. I believed I blocked the title along with the nav and footer in Elements ( sorry, I said I wasn't using any but all except that one was in draft mode ).
The problem was if I was creating a page, post, CPT in the backend using the Gutenberg editor, I was unable to create the Title for that page - no entry point for the cursor. If I added content to the page and then saved and went to the Admin listings, you would see the title and the slug to be the post ID, etc. In quick edit, I could then enter the title and change the slug. This is not how I recall every working like this.

Can you test it with All plugins except GP Premium disabled? Block editor tends to go haywire when a page builder plugin is installed.
Normally, If a site is using page builder plugin like Elementor, Oxygen builder, Divi, Beaver builder or any thing of some sort, you either go all-in on it or do a mixed content w/ a risk if things like this happening.
Page builders add a new level of complexity that can cause issues w/ how things work by default.
