Could I add more elements to the header?

Hi there,
currently it seems that you have the option to add only one image to the header. I am trying to achieve a theme that has the header image/logo on the left and some contact info to the right.
It seems like I would need to go into the structure to change it, but I can't do that in a child theme can I?
