Control of page

Hello,

I'm new to GP, please forgive me if my question is too obvious. I am working on my blog page but I am having great difficulty in getting where I need to be.

I have disabled everything in the disable elements section with exception and featured image.

I am using the new header template but this isnt showing despite its selection.

I have had to delete widgets to remove them opposed to using the sidebar layout which doesnt remove the widgets currently displayed.

I would like the menu to be at the top of the page as it is for the rest of the site.

Thanks in advance to anyone who can point me in the right direction.
