Customize > Layout > Container
My Container layout is as follows:
Container Width – 1024 px
Separating Space – 0 px
Content Separator – 0 px
Content Layout – One Container
Container Alignment – Text
Content Padding – 25, 24, 9, 8The Content Padding has no effect on the Content.
The content on most pages runs to the right and left edges of the body and on mobile setting I lose letters on the right side.
If you click on “Destinations” in the menu, you will see the pictures run to the edges on both sides of the body. There is a space between the body and the top bar which is picking up the colour of the background. No setting can change it.
The site is all pages. There is no Header. I created a Topbar to insert an image instead and I placed the Navigation menu into the sidebar. I did not create a sidebar element and I am wondering if that’s the problem. Am I supposed to create a Left Sidebar Element into which the menu is placed?
It’s not a problem with plugins. It happened when I gad only GP Premium and GenerateBlocks installed.
March 7, 2022 at 8:46 pm #2146173Fernando Customer SupportHi Linda,
I tried accessing your site but was unable to do so.
See: https://share.getcloudapp.com/6quZ9g7p
Also: https://share.getcloudapp.com/WnuyzgKL
Can you confirm if the live link is correct?
In any case, perhaps this is a PHP Memory Limit issue?
Kindly see: https://docs.generatepress.com/article/increasing-php-memory-limit/
Also see: https://community.localwp.com/t/php-memory-increase/2883/3
May you try increasing the PHP Memory Limit and see if the issue still occurs?
Hope to hear from you soon. 🙂
March 8, 2022 at 6:28 am #2146610LindaNone of that works for me. I am too new to WordPress.
MY QUESTION: Am I supposed to create a Left Sidebar in Elements in order to use the sidebar feature or is there a setting I am supposed to select to use the feature?
March 8, 2022 at 6:38 am #2146619DavidStaffCustomer SupportHi there,
go to Customizer > Layout > Sidebars here you will see the following:
https://docs.generatepress.com/article/sidebar-layout-overview/
Once enabled you can add Widgets/Blocks to the sidebars in either:
Customizer > Widgets
Gives you a live preview of your site as you build themOR
in Dashboard > Appearance > Widgets.
You get a slightly larger editing window and you can see ALL widget areas in one big list.March 8, 2022 at 7:12 am #2146662LindaI guess I’m not explaining myself properly. The Menu in the Left Sidebar is not a Widget. Do I need to create a Left Sidebar Element into which I would insert the menu?
March 8, 2022 at 7:22 am #2146677LindaI tried adding the Navigation Widget and now the menu is there twice but doesn’t collapse as Main Menu, Sub Menu and Sub Sub Menu.
March 8, 2022 at 7:49 am #2146821DavidStaffCustomer SupportYou should not need a widget in the sidebar for your navigation to appear. What happens if you now remove the Navigation widget ?
March 8, 2022 at 8:08 am #2146920LindaI removed the Navigation Widget from the Left Sidebar and now I’m back to the way it was before. The menu collapses as it should. But I still have the problem with padding.
The Content Padding has no effect on the Content.
The content on most pages runs to the right and left edges of the body and on mobile setting I lose letters on the right side.
If you click on “Destinations” in the menu, you will see the pictures run to the edges on both sides of the body.If you look at the site, you will see that the first line of the home page is right at the top of the body with no way to move it down a few pixels. Also there is a gap between the content body and the Topbar.
March 8, 2022 at 8:30 am #2146948DavidStaffCustomer SupportIts gonna take a little tweaking and probably some CSS.
But first off go to Customizer > Layout > Container and change the Content Layout to Separate Containers. Now you can add padding to the Container without it affecting the Sidebar.March 8, 2022 at 9:27 am #2147027LindaI did that and still the body content is touching the edges on both sides. I set the Content Padding to 40px on all sides and nothing changed.
March 8, 2022 at 9:36 am #2147043DavidStaffCustomer SupportAah on the home page you have the Content Container set to Contained:
https://docs.generatepress.com/article/content-container/
Set that to Default
March 8, 2022 at 10:47 am #2147121LindaThat fixed the padding in the content. Thank you so much. But I still can’t figure out how to get rid of the gap between the Topbar and the Content Container.
March 8, 2022 at 10:50 am #2147125LeoStaffCustomer SupportHave you considered uploading this image in Customizer > Site Identity > Logo?
https://www.screencast.com/t/MVLQpcunBHThe final appearance should be exactly the same and it should fix the issue.
Let me know 🙂
March 8, 2022 at 11:09 am #2147145LindaI uploaded the image. It looks the same. The gap between the Image and the Content Container is still there. Should I delete the Topbar? Might that make a difference?
March 8, 2022 at 11:24 am #2147164LeoStaffCustomer SupportI’m actually not seeing the changes in the live site.
Can you confirm that the image is uploaded in the logo field here?
https://docs.generatepress.com/article/adding-header-logo/Did you remove the site header somehow?
