Container color not showing on blog post

Hello,

I just encountered a benign but baffling (and a little annoying problem) that seemed to come out of nowhere on my Go Hydrology (https://gohydrology.org) website. My home page is my blog roll. In order to "juice up" posts, I've been adding a teal-colored container in my blog posts which contains "shared counts" bar plus a little factoid (i.e. quote, etc).

My issue is this: The teal coloring doesn't show on the main blog reel. It does show (1) when I open individual posts and (2) also on archive pages.

Main blog reel where the teal-coloring doesn't show: https://gohydrology.org
Individual post where it shows up great: https://gohydrology.org/belgiums-seal-of-florida/
Archive page where the teal-coloring shows up great: https://gohydrology.org/basins/big-cypress/

I went into the Site Ground optimizers and toggled everything I could think of off and on and cleared the cache but nothing seemed to do the trick of making the teal-coloring show in the main blog real. And again, I can't really think of a plugin I added or changed within this period. I have been adding block elements and hooks, but I wouldn't think that would make a difference on how a container is manifested on the posts in the main blog reel.

Do you have any ideas?

Thank you,

Bob

Hi Bob,

Can you disable siteground plugin for now when we are trying to inspect your site?

Hey Ying, I just deactivated the Site Ground Optimizer plugin. Thank you, Bob

Hi Bob,

I can see that another plugin (Jetpack) is making changes to how your CSS is loaded.

To check if this may be caused by another plugin, can you try number 1 here?: https://docs.generatepress.com/article/debugging-tips/

It would be good to take a backup of your site before doing so.

Kindly let us know how it goes.

Hey Fernando, I just turned off all the performance elements of the Jetpack Plugin.

In your admin dashboard, can you also go to GenerateBlocks > Settings then click on Regenerate CSS files?

If that doesn’t work, I can still see Jetpack generating critical CSS: https://share.getcloudapp.com/4gurzd81

Can you try disabling it and other plugins to be sure?

And, if there’s any other caching mechanism (server side included) setup in your website, can you try clearing all of them.

Kindly let us know how it goes.

Hey Fernando, I deactivated Jet Pack. I also saw I had to re-enter my premium key code for Generate Blocks, which I did. I also cleared my caching from Envira Photo Gallery. After that, I don't see anywhere else I can clear the cache. Weird about this issue, it appeared out of the blue. BTW: For Generate Blocks, I then regenerated the CSS. Still, the teal-colored box is not showing its teal color on the front blog reel.

I see. Thank you for testing. This is indeed weird. The CSS to alter the color of the GB Container is missing.

Usually, the reason for this in an optimization/caching plugin. One culprit is a setting like “remove unused CSS”. Another is merging CSS files.

With that said, I can still see Jetpack and some other plugins from my end. To clarify, have you tried disabling all non-GP plugins to test?

If you try to create a new Container Block to test, does the issue appear there as well?

Hope to hear from you soon!

Hey Fernando, I deleted more plugins, and then per your suggestion I added a new block -- and they are appearing! But with a twist: I added some "effects" to the container (i.e. box shadow, etc) and those effects are appearing in all the previous blocks that have, similar to the one I just recreated, previously created. Is that unusual for it to have a global effect, even though, to my knowledge, I was just adding it to a single block?

That’s unusual as well.

Have you noticed this as well: https://share.getcloudapp.com/E0uy8w92

Like this issue, I suspect the missing CSS may also be caused by a third party plugin. The only way to know for sure to is to temporarily disable all non-GP plugins as mentioned. You can create a backup of your website to assure any changes can be reverted back to its original state.

Or, you can also setup a staging site, and test there. Here’s an article which might help you with regards to this: https://www.wpbeginner.com/wp-tutorials/how-to-create-staging-environment-for-a-wordpress-site/

Kindly let us know how it goes!

Hey Fernando, I backed up the site and disabled all the plugins except Envira Photo Gallery, Yoast SEO, Askimet, and the Custom Post Type plugins. That pretty much strips it down. BTW: I was unable to replicate the double menu effect you produced. Do you think that may have something to do with the "red subscribe" button I set up. I'm using GeneratePresses solution for the mega-menu.

Thank you for disabling the plugins.

Upon checking your website, I can confirm that Jetpack is still enabled: https://share.getcloudapp.com/o0uGjWAY

With that said, even if it should be disabled, it’s still appearing, on my end, and this may mean that the version I’m seeing is a cached version.

Can you try reaching out to your hosting provider to see if they have a caching mechanism set on your website?

The doubling of the menu may also be caused by your caching/optimization plugins, however, since I'm still seeing Jetpack, it may also happen that your site has a caching mechanism set server-side as mention.

Kindly let us know how it goes.

Fernando - I just went into the Site Ground panel and found a caching area which I disabled. Does that help? And yes, I've definitely disabled Jetpack and Jetpack boost on my panel, so it much be a cached version. Not sure. This is all very obscure to me. thanks for your help.

Yes, it must be a cached version if I’m still seeing Jetpack. Checking the Header file of your site, I can indeed confirm that the site is cached: https://share.getcloudapp.com/xQuwZB2n

Can you reach out to your hosting provider and see if they may assist you regarding this?

Hope this clarifies!
