Columns settings missing when using GeneratePress

Hi there,

i believe those features were rolled into WP 6.0 by default for Block Based themes. GP is a classic theme so we will look to add support for those in a future update.

You may want to consider using the GenerateBlocks Grid Block, it has a tonne of styling controls built it.

Thanks, I hope the GP theme is updated soon to make use of all WP 6.0 features.

Classic themes are a recent naming convention for any theme that uses PHP Templates as opposed to the recent Block based static HTML templates. And GP was created over 8 years ago way before block based themes were a thing.

Hard to say considering a) the way WP went about introducing block themes makes it nigh on impossible to convert a classic to a block base theme and b) we have yet to see the advantages of them.

But... GP has already embraced block based design, with the development of GenerateBlocks and the Block Element. Our approach has taken the benefit of Block based design whilst maintaining all the dynamic capabilities that a 'classic' PHP template theme has ( that is currently a thing in a block based theme ).

We like to think its a hybrid that chooses whats best of the two technologies. And as more good stuff comes out of WP we will review and decide whether its worth introducing. Including those missing block controls :)

Thanks for explaining that, I am not wanting to add GenerateBlocks as I use another I find more useful :). I also want to be minimal in what I need to install and use. I don't want to add another plugin to do what the theme and premium should already do.

I may need to review my use of GeneratePress (and Premium) after I switched to it from another well-known theme.

As I said I hope in haste GeneratePress adds and makes available "default" WP tools and settings since it is a theme for WordPress. A theme should not stop WordPress settings from being used.
