Child Theme really needed?

If I make a site only within GP, and some custom CSS with Simple CSS plugin, is it safe to assume that a child theme is useless? What about future updates, is there anything in your plans that might break things in an unreasonable way?
If you're only using some custom CSS, then yes I would say it's not needed.
Child themes are great if you're overriding core template files etc..
As long as you don't edit the core code, updates won't break anything :)
So, to be clear: customizer settings are not overwritten by an GP update?
That's correct. Those settings are stored in the database - updates will never touch your database :)
