I have installed a child theme after already using the parent. Is there some ‘import settings’ or other to do or is the child theme ready to use. Couldn’t find instructions how to proceed with the child after installing.

Lead DeveloperLead DeveloperHi there,
You shouldn’t need to do anything.
A couple of options are theme-dependent, including the copyright, so you might need to update that.
Other than that, did anything change on your site?

Hi. When I activate the child theme, my home page header text drops down to the bottom part of the hero pic and the button disappears. And the Customizer css section is empty, should it be? I have deleted the ‘functions’ code from the child theme and copy pasted the copyright.
Edit. Parent’s Home page header’s ‘arrow down’ to a first section has dropped down at the bottom, I must have messed the code or something. Is the code available somewhere? Sorry about the possibly ‘stupid’ questions, this is my first site with gp.This is another issue which I have had with the parent also. For some reason I’m not able to change the overlay colour of the header elements and they are all except the one on home page too dark. I’m using the Zeal demo. I have tried to delete headers and do them again, but with same result. Nothing happens when I change the value of overlay and I have parallax before opting it. And when I make a new page with a featured picture, it shows on it’s place before I have build a header for the page. My knowledge is not enough to figure out what I have done wrong and why all these funny things happen with headers. The site is no live yet, so unfortunately I don’t have a link.

Lead DeveloperLead DeveloperAh, if you’re using a site from the Library, you’ll want to copy all of the CSS in Customize > Additional CSS while using the parent theme. Then you’ll want to paste that CSS into that same area once you install the child theme. WordPress made it so the Additional CSS option is theme-specific for some reason.
As for the overlay issue, any chance you can link me to the page so I can take a look?

Ok, thanks I will copy the css.
Unfortunately the site is not live yet, so no link available atm.
There is something funny about the headers as I’m not able to change the headings on inner pages. Seems like I can only edit the home page and all the other headers have settings that don’t change when I try to edit. I tried to change the overlay, nothing happens and the size of the headings is same with h1 to h5 except the home page varies accordingly.
When I edit with elementor I see on the mobile and tablet the headings are too big and all of the, the site title, the page title and the mobile hamburger are a mess at the center of the header. I couldn’t fond the settings in the customizer for moving the hamburger to the left or right corner or disabling the site title from mobile and tablet and then of course need smaller headings for page title, otherwise some of them won’t fit the screen.
I will try to get my site live, so I can give your a link.

Hi! Here is the link https://www.fabirron.com/
I just put it online, so I have checked everything in admin / elementor editing, so not sure, if it looks the same. But on mobile the page titles were bad and all in a punch in the middle.
And I just noticed that the mobile menu is full wide on some pages and more narrow on other pages. Not sure why, since I have not set the menus yet.

Lead DeveloperLead DeveloperPerfect, so let’s work on one issue at a time and check them off the list.
I just checked out the headers on the homepage and some inner pages and didn’t notice any issues. All of them have an overlay which is working correctly. What about them are you trying to change, and what isn’t working?
When you change the background color (which is used as the overlay) and save, does the value not save? It just reverts back to the black color?
Let me know π

The headers are otherwise ok, but on mobile they are a mess. Unfortunately I have only phone, so don’t know how they actually look on other devices.
The overlay on inner pages don’t change at all. If I take the overlay off or try to set it lighter or change the color or basically do anything still nothing changes. Same with the page titles, if I try to change the size of the headings, nothing happens. An all headers have parallax, even if I don’t check the box.The only one I can adjust is the home page. And when I add new page and before I have set the display rules to that new page, it already has a header if I have added a featured picture. It is like I’m making the headers for nothing, since all I have to do is add the featured picture and everything is at its place. The headings are ok, I would like a bit lighter overlay and solve the page title. site title, menu on top of each other issue on mobile/iphone, but other than that they are ok.
Another setting I didn’t find is the black background of main nav, is possible to set also for the inner pages? And is it possible to move the hamburger to the right or left as now everything is in the middle.
Sorry for all the questions, this is my first site with gp and a bit lost with the settings π
Edit. Seems that I have resolved the font size mess on mobile. The overlay issue is still remains.

Lead DeveloperLead DeveloperThe issue with the mobile menu overlapping content in the header can be solved by setting a value in the “Offset Site Header Height” option: https://docs.generatepress.com/article/header-element-overview/#site-header
Using that option will push down your page hero content so the mobile menu doesn’t sit on top of it.
Are you sure you’re editing the Header Elements that apply to the inner pages? If you’d like you can send me temporary admin login details so I can take a closer look: https://generatepress.com/contact
If you do that, be sure to mention this topic π
