[Support request] Changing a parent category to a child category

Hi guys
I know this is not GP related but thought I’d be cheeky and ask if any of
you have dealt with this before, as I can’t find a direct answer.
I need to clean up a shed load of categories so my Taxonomy is neater ( and smaller).
Will changing a parent category to become a child category harm my SEO?
e.g site.com/category/1950-hair, to become a child e.g category/1950-fashion/1950-hair/
On a test site I tried it and there are no apparent broken links with new taxonomy.
But when I google the old category, it clicks through to site.com/category/1950’s hair
Will it just update when Google next fetches the url, or do I need to redirect /1950’s-hair/ to /1950-fashion/1950-hair ?

Have you tried asking the question to one of the SEO plugins’ support?

They would likely have a better understanding of this than us 🙂
