I’m looking for a way to change the order of items that appear in the Admin dashboard left menu.

I would like to move Posts down below my Custom Post Types since I am not using the default blog posts.

And, while I’m at it, I would like to move some of the plugin menus that seem to arbitrarily insert themselves up high in the admin menu. Ultimately, I’d like to arrange the admin menu in order of most used instead of mostly random.

I found instructions for editing the ‘menu_position’ values in the theme-init.php file in the default WP themes but I can’t map that to the GeneratePress theme. I did locate the wp-admin > includes > menu.php file which is tackling the menu order. But, I don’t dare mess about there.

    Hi there,

The theme itself doesn’t control the dashboard menu at all as it’s all handled by WordPress.

Perhaps a plugin like this would help?

Ok, thanks! Sorry to take up your time on non-generate press things. I’ll check out the link you sent. You guys are beyond great.
