category archive shows all products?

i'm using generatepress pro, elementor pro and woocommerce and notice that when i go to a category archive all my products are showing. it wasn't always like this. i also notice that my number of products does not change when i adjust it in my customizer. is there some way to prioritize the generatepress settings? i assume it's because i'm also using elementor on the site....
oh.... actually i realized the issue with the archive... but still wonder how to prioritize choices made in the customizer.....

That's not possible unfortunately.
You will need to configure everything within Elementor.
