JANE
The message we get when we try to update the plugin says “Update failed: Download failed. stream_socket_client(): unable to connect to ssl://generatepress.com:443 (Connection timed out).” The theme is updating okay, just can’t get the plugin. The license key is in there and it says “receiving premium updates,” but that isn’t happening. Please help.

I have almost the same error on my website, trying to update GP Premium from 2.2.2 to 2.3.1.
“Aktualisierung fehlgeschlagen: Download fehlgeschlagen. cURL error 28: Failed to connect to generatepress.com port 443 after 10017 ms: Timeout was reached”March 31, 2023 at 1:38 pm #2591263Dirk
As a workaround I downloaded the plugin from https://generatepress.com/account/ and installed it manually. (not the solution for Jane, maybe?)

StaffCustomer SupportHi Jane,
Can you try removing the license key, then adding it back again?
Is the activation successful?
If it occurs 403 error again, can you try the solution introduced here?
https://docs.generatepress.com/article/license-key-activation-issues/#403-forbidden-when-activating-license-keyLet me know!

Hi Ying,
The solution you suggested involves editing a php file, and this is beyond my technical skills. I know it’s risky and really don’t understand how to do it. I also know that the whole site can go down if a mistake is made with php files.
We really need to be able to update the plugin as designed in wordpress. Can someone there fix this for me?

StaffCustomer SupportWe cannot do it for you unfortunately.
You can just perform a manual update in the meantime:

I’m seeing that I am not alone with this problem. There are no other updates that we have to do manually. Are you going to fix for all users or are you saying we will always have to manually update it?

StaffCustomer SupportHi Jane,
The debugging steps are all the documentation, you will need to follow the steps and fix the issue.
Make sure you’ve backup your site, if anything happens, you can ask your host to roll back. -
