Can't get menu to display on mobile

Hi,
I've tried but failed to get the menu to display on a mobile. I've toggled the button in Layout>Primary navigation.

The menu area shows as the standard 3 bars with "Menu" to the right. When I tap on that area I get a whole dark pink blank area covering the majority of the site, from the right, with no text or links to webpages.
