Can someone point me in the right direction?

I'd like to setup my home page to look something like this https://www.caninejournal.com/

Can someone point me to an article or thread that would help me accomplish this the correct way? There are probably multiple ways to do it but I'm unsure which way is the correct way. For example, I'm not sure if you should use a page hero, header element, header widget, background image, etc.....

It doesn't have to be this home page, just something that would help me to understand the general approach I should take. A few years ago I used some tutorials you had in the documentation but I couldn't find the same articles with the current version of GP Premium.

And I prefer not to use a site library site because I'd like to learn how to do it....but I didn't even see one of the starter sites that looked like this anyway.

Thank you!

Hi Jeff,

Here is a walkthrough of a Template called Charge which may be of assistance to you: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fVUekTSF1fg

Moreover, your reference site has a Page Hero with an image only on the Front Page. You can opt to just add a Container Block for this solely on the Front page as is with this Walkthrough Template: https://youtube.com/watch?v=TATKonlT6Sk or create a Block Element for it as well. Either should work.

As for the list of Posts in the Front page, you can use a Content Template - Block Element as used in the first linked walkthrough video.

The other pages in the Menu seem to be Archive pages. You can use a Page Hero - Block Element for this portion: https://share.getcloudapp.com/6quzRkEK

Then, a Content Template - Block Element for these: https://share.getcloudapp.com/DOudWgmx

Hope these help! :)

Hi Jeff,

My website doesn't look much like that one, but some elements are similar.
Like a header image on the front page only, use of columns for content layout etc.

I wrote down everything I had to do in order to get that design - once I had it figured out. If it's of any help:

I'm going to try this out...thank you for the thoughtful response!

holy cow your site is incredible and coincidentally, I'm also hardcore into bikes! I currently ride Cannondale Hooligan but build old school BMX bikes as a hobby. Thank you for chiming in. I'm going to try and see if I can get my site to look like a fraction of yours.

Hi Jeff,

Glad you like it and glad I could help. :)

I'm a sys-admin and a hobby bike mechanic - not a developer. And my sense for aesthetics is like Ray Charles' - I had to ask a friend to draw the complete website, every detail, then just used GeneratePress to implement that.

With a bit of experimenting, I have no doubt you'll make an even better website. GeneratePress Premium seems like among the best tools to do it without (much) coding.

P.S.
Cannondale loves doing exotic stuff with those forks. :)
