If I understand correctly, (and I could be wrong) generateress is built on the Twenty fifteen theme?? Should I keep twenty fifteen installed? Are there any updates that I have to do with twenty fifteen, or is it automatically updated when WordPress puts out an update?

Hi there,
GeneratePress was built from scratch, not any of the Twenty-x themes.
You can safely remove those if you don’t want them 🙂
