I recently created my first site using Generate Press, and because I didn’t entirely know what I was doing ๐Ÿ™‚ I failed to make a child theme. Because I was trying to duplicate some features from the client’s previous site, I wound up making LOTS of changes to the theme. So now I’m stuck in a position where I can’t update GP because it would overwrite all of the additional files I have added to the theme directory. Is there a way I can retroactively make my theme into a child theme without breaking anything? My current GP version is 2.0.2 but my GP Premium plugin is up to date.

    Hi Sue,

    Unfortunately that’s not possible.

However, you can run the files through a difference checker.

This is an online service that helps: https://www.diffchecker.com/

So you would put your edited file into one field, and the original theme file into the other.

This would show you the edits you made, which you could then transfer to a child theme.

Let me know if you need more info ๐Ÿ™‚
