Folks: I’m using buttons in two ways. On this page https://robertdeanholland.com/signup-for-blog-posts-and-news/ I use a button to pop the Privacy Policy as ‘Terms and Conditions’ on page https://robertdeanholland.com/wpautoterms/privacy-policy/ and this one seems to render fine on mobile.

There are two other page I’m currently using a button for to transport the user to a new page at Amazon KDP to buy the novel. This page https://robertdeanholland.com displays all three novels with Book One of the Stolen Man Trilogy releasing for sale on 12/01/22, while the other two books are in final polishing to be released in 3-4 month increments following beta reader feedback. The user can click on each book cover image and be taken to a detail page.

It is the detail page for Book One that the button for the KDP order renders badly on mobile:

    https://robertdeanholland.com/book-one/

On the development page when I try to see how it will render on desktop, tablet or mobile–the choices for these are not present. Why?

Also, is there a GPP button function I’m missing? I would also like to control the sizes and thicknesses of the buttons. I can control Font size and color, that’s about it. But I think it’s important that the purchase button on page https://robertdeanholland.com/book-one/ render nicely as opposed to a stack of letters, which it does on both of our smart phones.

    Thanks as always. I am grateful. . . .

    Hi there,

if you select that Button, can you set its Width to 100% for desktop?

David: Setting it to 50% solved the issue, but on the toolbars for my pages no longer display the choice of looking at the page for desktop, tablet, or mobile.

    Why?

And how do I toggle that on?

    Thx

The core Buttons block doesn’t have any responsive options.
If you use a GenerateBlocks Buttons block then you will see the device size options.

David: It would seem you have answered a question I did not ask, but needed to. I assumed that I since I have GenerateBlocks (GB) activated, the choice for the button block would be the default.

How do I make certain I’m using the GB and GPP blocks. More specifically, how do I make certain, i.e. how do I find, the GB buttons block.

And thank you for your insight. We sometimes get lost out here in the world.

    Hi Robert,

The best way to make certain that the Blocks you’re adding are from GB and GPP is to check in the block inserter. To open this, click the + icon on the top left of the editor.

    Example: https://share.getcloudapp.com/Z4umlrYr

The logo of the Block is another thing you can look at. Example: https://share.getcloudapp.com/ApueQELj

Folks: Clicking on the plus sign in the upper left is the only way I know how to add a container, paragraph, button, whatever?

I just checked my site, and none of the blocks have the desktop, tablet, or mobile.

If you type /generateblocks, the Blocks for GenerateBlocks should appear as well. Example: https://share.getcloudapp.com/OAu2K8Kg

The same goes for GPP Blocks. You can type /generatepress. See: https://share.getcloudapp.com/8LugG0G6

With regards to the Responsive view options, if you’re referring to the ones in the Block settings, it’s only available if you’re using a GenerateBlocks Block. Example: https://share.getcloudapp.com/z8ulAmpA

Fernando: I thank you so much, but it also makes me very sad. My entire website was built under the wrong assumption that I was auto-magically using GPP and GB if I had them installed.

Trying to go backwards and use this /generateblocks and /generatepress forces a compete rebuild of the website, and explains a lot of the issues I’ve been struggling with, and your team has been helping me through. 🙁

I cannot get around to it right now. I have until 11/27/22 to get the final beta reader’s modifications into Indesign and push the PDFs up to Amazon KDP and IngramSpark as both paperback and ePub–KDP converts the ePub to Kindle–Spark sells the ePub as is to the world.

The 2nd and 3rd novels are written except for the polish edits, and that’s not trivial. With what we’ve learned about getting the stories published worldwide, the next two pieces of the trilogy will go easier. I’ll try slipping GPP and GB into rebuilds one page at a time, but not anytime soon. Publishing deadlines rule.

The good news is that the website pops fast, and it’s very complete at this stage.

Do me a solid, and check these two webpages with your smartphone, then tell if the call-to-action buttons behave.

Maybe, if necessary, I can just replace the buttons with the GPP and GB blocks?

    Thanks again–and sheesh!

    Lemme know. . . .

    I see.

I tested the “Amazon” and the “Click here for terms and conditions” buttons, and they’re working from my end.

As it is now, to alter their appearance, you’ll need custom CSS. Using a GB Buttons Block would be ideal if you want to change how they appear easily.

Whichever way you opt to go, we’ll be here to assist, just let us know.

Fernando, I do want better control of the buttons. There will be more as we get the next two volumes into print. Also, I see ‘GeneratePress’ on top of the dropdown for choosing blocks, so maybe–in my innocence–I managed to use GPP and GB after all.

Would you be able to ascertain whether I actually did it all correctly with GPP and GB if I gave you a user login for the site after Turkey Day?

Fernando, thanks so much. Here it is.

I’ll be wrestling with Adobe InDesign CC the next couple of days trying to get the EPUB created. My deadline is 5-days away, 11/17/22.

Unfortunately this isn’t a service we can offer. We are happy to look at specific issues and provide suggestions if you run into them.

You can imagine our support loads if everyone wants a check over.

    Thanks for your understanding 🙂
