Hi there,
I have posted an article with a certain URL, however, I noticed I made a typo and within a short time frame I changed the URL to the correct one.
Now both URLs direct me to the same blog post. More specifically, the incorrect URL (where I made the typo) redirects to the new (correct) URL I set.
Strange things is that I didn’t set any redirect myself, so I am wondering what’s causing this issue and how I can solve it.
Could you please help? (Please find details in the info box below).

StaffCustomer SupportHi there,
The theme itself doesn’t have any redirection built-in and does not interfere with the permalinks as that’s all handled by WordPress itself:
https://wordpress.org/support/article/using-permalinks/Perhaps one of your plugins has some sort of redirection set up?

Hi there,
I checked an none of the plugins create the issue.
Furthermore, I also noticed that it’s not only happening with the aforementioned article but all links in general.
Even if I only write the first letter of a page it automatically redirects to the full page instead of giving a ‘Page not found’ error.
So in case of http://www.website.com/postname –> if I simply write http://www.website.com/p it will redict me to the original page.
Could you please help fix this?

StaffCustomer SupportHi there,
this kinda of thing is dealt with by SEO plugins – are you using Yoast Premium? as that has an auto redirect feature.

Hi David,
No, I dont use Yoast Premium. I disabled all of my plugins and the issue persists.
In the meantime I noticed something, so I am no longer sure if it’s an issue.
I also tested it with your site. If you take your /premium page, for instance. Type https://generatepress.com/premi and it will also redirect to the premium page.
If you type https://generatepress.com/p it will also redirect to a page.
It seems WordPress is automatically redirecting these incorrect searches to pages with the closest result.Would this make sense to you? Give what I just said, do you think this is an issue? Would it create duplicate content issues for ex?

StaffCustomer SupportI assume the same issue exist in a Twenty series theme as well?

It seems WordPress is automatically redirecting these incorrect searches to pages with the closest result.I think I did notice that a while ago as well but thought it would be an SEO thing.
I’d say give the Twenty series theme a shot, if it’s doing the same thing then it’s likely a non-issue 🙂
