Strange though, when i take a look on your website and the preview-video on this site you manage to make it work even with 'show excerpt' turned on... but it ain't working for me: no image shows in masonry with show excerpt turned on. What am I doing wrong?

If I change the "post image" option, nothing happens. I mean I see the image all the time, no matter what I option I use. This happens for both, the preview (fetaured image, if I get you right) and the article view.

Thanks for pointing this out - Generate Blog went through a pretty major update, and I didn't notice this issue.

Just about to release a new version which fixes this.
