Blog excerpt on archive page and other format issues

Hi Gents,
Apologies for the rookie question (and possible mistake?)
I switched page builders from beaverbuilder to elementor, and it appeared to have possibly broken my site. I deactivated and deleted beaver builder and installed elementor+elementor pro
I see some formatting issues, and I'll be okay with rebuilding and fixing some of the pages- the site was due for an update anyway.
However, there's some weird things that relate to the theme that concern me. I have the blog excerpt set at 40 words in the generatepress options.
But in the archive page, the appearance is randomly incorrect on several posts. The except and open button appears for some, but has disappeared for others.

Is this 1. fixable and 2. a symptom of more serious problems on the backend/theme after switching page builders? Any other caveats and pointers would be appreciated. Thanks!
Michael
Hi Michael,
Are you using the Custom Excerpt field for some of your posts? By default, the “read more” is disabled for these. You’ll need a snippet to re-add it.
Here’s the code: https://docs.generatepress.com/article/activating-read-custom-excerpt/
Adding PHP reference: https://docs.generatepress.com/article/adding-php/#code-snippets
Hope this helps!
Hi Fernando
I never had to use PHP to show the excerpt before. And the fact that some posts lost their excerpts (but not others) in the archives page makes me think there's a bigger problem.
Thanks
edit- it's always been a theme customization option, as per this image

Thanks

To be sure, can you open a post where there’s no Read more button, and check if there’s a custom excerpt or a read more block?

Hi Fernando
I'm not using Gutenberg~ The site was built on Beaver Builder and I switched to Elementor. That's when the issue occurred.
It seems like the idea of switching page buiders on a site is a bad idea right now. What's your opinion?
Michael
Oh, I see.
To have a better understanding of the issue, may you kindly provide the link to the site in question? I'll check if there's something else causing this.
You may use the private information field for this: https://docs.generatepress.com/article/using-the-premium-support-forum/#private-information
thanks Fernando
My site is in the private field
Michael
Thank you. There’s nothing apparent we can see that could cause the issue at the moment.
By any chance, could you share temporary login credentials to your staging site so we could investigate further?
What's your email address?
You can use one of your extra emails if you have any, or create one, or use a temporary email site. We only need the credentials.
got it- I updated the profile- there was an issue with the registration.
there was an issue with the user reg and I fixed it- sorry for the delay
I can’t seem to login. It says the password is incorrect.
hmm- I'm resending new login credentials
let me know if this works
Can you try #1 here?: https://docs.generatepress.com/article/debugging-tips/
It would be good to take a backup of your site first before doing this.
Let us know how it goes.
