Block elements and hook elements-have they been updated since the tutorials?

Hi, I'm working through the tutorials to learn about how to use GP's elements. In the tutorials, when a block element is created, one has the option to pick which hook to use. When I tried the block element, there is no hook to choose from--it's simply a block. I'm sure I'm missing something here, unless an update changed on how to create elements. Any tips would be appreciated!
