Hi,
first of all, all the best for 2021!
For now, our site only exists in Dutch, but we would like to add the French translation. We use GeneratePress Premium.
We have done the translations ourselves. Do we also need an extra plugin like Polylang or WPM, or is there another way?

Yes, for Translations you will need a plugin like Polylang or WPML. We have many users that use these plugins - we see less support requests with Polylang.
