I am setting up a new GeneratePress site

When testing the TTFB for a text file such as /license.txt I get 0.2 seconds
but when testing the clean new site (I’ve just started working on the homepage design, other than that it’s a pretty clean install), I get 1.3 seconds.

Is this normal?? I’m guessing it’s not a hosting issue if the text file loads so quickly?

    Hi there,

TTFB ( Time to first byte ) is 100% related to the network and server. In simple terms you can look at in 3 steps:

    1. Time taken for the browser request to reach the web server.
    2. Time taken for the server to process the request and create a response.
    3. Time taken for said response to reach the browser.

I would expect to see a difference between a simple file request and the init of a WP install but 1.3 secs is extreme and something you may want to talk to your host about.
