Best practice to include hero images about pages and blogs

Hi,
Can you tell me the best practice how te configure featured images above pages and blogs?
See for example, the page of the specified URL in the private area.
For this moment, I think the page starts with a H1.
Then the featured image, and below the image the contents.
Can you tell me the best way to include a featured image?
Is it with an image block or ....
And how can I specify the size of this image?
And should I setup each page seperately or make it more generic with Elements?
Thanks for your answer.
Best, Henk.
Hi there,
best practice is to use the Featured Image option in the Post Editor.
You can set the size and position of this in the Customizer > Layout > Blog --> Featured Images:

Hi David,
That part is even easier than I thought.
Thanks!
And the last questions about this topic, because I'm struggling with this for some time: can you suggest a size that I should use for the featured images?
In the mean team I read several articles and I think the max dimension of 1200px for landscape and 1200px for portrait format should be good enough.
I'm using already the plugins Shortpixel and Perfect images (previously called WP Retina 2X). In Shortpixel I specified a max of 1200px.
And what should I do with the configration in Wordpress > Settings > Media? Just leave them as is?
Thanks for your answer.
Thats great!
For your site, yes 1200px would be the largest image size to upload. As thats the maximum container width.
And what should I do with the configration in WordPress > Settings > Media? Just leave them as is?
Yes, no need to change them,
Thank you David.
You're welcome
