CRISTO
I am looking for a good photo gallery plug in to use as a widget on my sidebar on my GP site. Lots of reviews out there, but not sure which one to get. Anyone have any suggestions?

Lead DeveloperLead DeveloperI don’t really know of any really good ones (not a fan of NextGen) – I usually just use the default WordPress gallery but I’m not sure if that will work for sidebar widgets.
Maybe someone else will have an idea 🙂

Thanks, Tom. I guess I may be a bit confused. Are the widgets global? I want a different gallery on each page. Likewise, I have maps at the bottom of many pages and these need to be specific to that page. It looks like it is a global setting, so that I am not able to do that. If I change a map at the bottom of the page it then puts the same map on all pages.
Just want to be sure that I am doing this correctly…probably I step I am missing here.

Lead DeveloperLead DeveloperBy default, widgets are global.
You can make them page-specific using a plugin like this: https://en-ca.wordpress.org/plugins/display-widgets/

Thanks, Tom. Frankly, plug-ins scare me. They don’t always play nice with one another…and when you read reviews it can be confusing since you will find most people love it and then a few others hate it. My reason for choosing GP was to avoid using any more plug-ins than necessary, but I realize some are necessary. I have the same problem with maps in my footer widgets.

Not sure that I have asked the question in the right way. Let me try one more time….I am so inexperienced at this that I don’t know what can and cannot be done. The plugin you mentioned above seems more designed to remove an existing widget.
What I am looking for is a way to add a Google Maps widget to an individual page: For exaample, my page about Italy will have my Google MyMaps that I made. No other page will have that….most other pages will each have their own custom googl My Maps. So I need a way to edit each individual page for both the maps widget and the photo gallery. Perhaps this is not possible, but so far everything is working out with GP except those two items.
Perhaps someone on this forum has had a similar problem to overcome? I keep thinking there must be a way, because I sure don’t want to go back to Homestead.

Ok, I think a found a work-around for me. I go to text in the editor, and add the Google my maps code there. It puts the map below my content, not in the footer, but I think that will work for me. Same with the photo gallery perhaps, although I haven’t tried that yet. Apparently I do not yet know enough about WordPress to understand what can and cannot be done;
Here is what it looks like when I plug the map into the content….only shows up on one page, and that is what I want. In this case the map does not match the content….I waa just trying it out to see if it worked….and it does. I will just have to change my design a bit and not have the maps in the footer widget.
Now time for a glass of wine!

Lead DeveloperLead DeveloperWell deserved glass of wine! Glad you got it working 🙂
Plugins are hit and miss – a lot of the time you can ignore the ridiculous 1 stars if there’s way more 5 stars – people can be mean when they’re frustrated.

Thanks for the advice on reviews, Tom. I assumed that was the case, plus some people you just cannot please no matter what.
