Hello, I notice that the GP demo has both category, author, and year archive pages:
    http://demo.generatepress.com/category/blog/
    http://demo.generatepress.com/author/gpdemo/
    http://demo.generatepress.com/2012/

however on the site I’m setting up, the author archive doesn’t work. I get “Oops! That page can’t be found.” see here:
    http://balancedschedule.thebumbershoot.com/author/Bumbershoot%20Admin/

I am using a child theme.

related question: how would I set up a “main blog” page that shows the most recent posts?

    Thanks!

To set up your blog, go to “Settings > Reading” and set your “Front page displays” option to Your latest posts.

Once you do that, can you let me know so I can confirm your author URL?

Tom, thanks for your quick reply. I don’t want the homepage to be the blog page, so I kept the Front page as a static page, and set the 2nd dropdown “Posts Page” to the “Blog” page, which worked great:
    http://balancedschedule.thebumbershoot.com/community/blog/
(funny that in 5 years of WordPress development I never noticed the existence of that dropdown! I usually build my own templates, yours is the first one lean enough for my taste)

So now that just leaves the author page issue to figure out… the above link should allow you to click the author’s name to confirm the author url.

I wonder if it’s a WordPress issue with the space in your username?

Maybe test by adding a new user (with no spaces) and publishing a post with them.

I went into the database and changed the name to “BumbershootAdmin”, still no good… then I changed the display name on the user admin screen, and then it started working – but oddly, the url was /author/bumbershoot-admin/ – so it used the old username to create the slug. I went into the database and changed the name back and clicked “update” on the user admin screen again and it still works. Convoluted story, but I suspect that just updating the user recalculated the slug somehow. Thanks for your help – really love working with this theme.

That’s weird! Glad you got it working 🙂
