Archive feature request: Show no content

I would like to request a new feature: select that archives generate no list of posts (or excerpts).

Background
Customize > Layout > Blog (Content = Archives)
From here I can select either: Content type = Full content | Exceprt.
I would like a new option to select: Content type = None
i.e. display no posts at all (although the archive page is still created).

Use case
I can create my own archive content using Elements and Custom Content Shortcode, but there is no easy way to REPLACE the existing generated archive content (Full content or Excerpts). The new option mentioned above, would let me do that. With little overhead to GeneratePress, it would also improve its flexibility.

Options
It would be nice (but would increase the overhead), being able to specify the archive type individually for:

  • Category archives
  • Tag archives
  • Author Archives
  • Date archives
  • Post format archives
  • Search archives (search results page)

Hi Ian,

I can't see too many uses of this function and we've never had any other requests on this so I don't think we will be adding it.

Keep in mind that the full content/excerpt option are WordPress core functions/options and GP just add the option to let you select them.

WordPress doesn't actually offer a No content option so we'd need to add a custom function to it which isn't' a good idea.

Let me know if this makes sense.

Hmm those aren't quite the same request.

The blog/archive pages are automatically generated by WordPress and there isn't a do nothing option.

However, you don't have to use them if you don't to.

In your case, sounds like creating a static page with your shortcode content would do?

Hi there!

After searching the forum about my question, I found this topic.

I configured my blog to show the full content of the posts (Customize > Layout > Blog), but in the search results it shows the posts excerpt.

Is there a way for search results it shows the full content of the posts?
