AMP ... Adding a Simple Adsense Responsive Ad Below Header

On the Non-Amp version, I use an elements hook to place the add below the header ... super simple, works great. However, the AMP version does not display the ad ... it seems to be stripping out the hook. Is there a way to accomplish this without using a third-party plugin?
Using GeneratePress + Premium no child theme, official AMP plugin + AMP for GeneratePress.

Is the ad code you're adding compatible with AMP? For example, does it display if you add it to your content?
As long as your AMP site is still using GP as the theme, the hook should work. Does the hook output regular text on the AMP site?
