Advice on short posts

I like the idea https://www.theverge.com/ has were they mix in short posts with longer posts.

The short posts would contain just a video, tweet or short text.

I am trying to think how best to do this in GP.

Does GP support the Wordpress post formats? https://developer.wordpress.org/themes/functionality/post-formats/ ticking them in the admin area does not seem to do anything.

Or should I create new custom posts to do this?

So for example I would like to create a post to show a tweet on the homepage without it needing a featured image. Users could still click on it to comment.

I am probably really over complication this but just thought I would ask in case you have seen other sites do this.
