Is there a plugin you would recommend for more advanced menus? We wish to have dropdowns that push the content downward so that it doesn’t cover any ads shown there (to avoid violations).

it may be possible without a plugin, if you're using the GP navigation with sub menus set to display on Click.
Do you have a site set up like that ?
Is there a setting within Generatepress Menu where the content below the menu gets pushed downward when the dropdown is selected? Currently the dropdown activates and it falls over the Google Ad placed in the Header section.
No, just the option to open the Menus on click.
If you have a site with that set up then i can take a look at it and see if we provide some CSS to make that happen
