Adding padding around posts in archive lists

I've checked "Display padding around images" in the settings for the featured images per post in archive lists, but this doesn't appear to do anything. The featured images and excerpts are touching each other.
How can I add padding between posts in my archive lists?

in Customizer > Layout > Container - can you make sure there is a value in the Separating Space?
