    Hi There,

I am new to WordPress and do not know any coding. I am trying to add simple graphic icons in the footer widgets. Please see http://www.generatepress.com for reference, for example the lightning bolt image icon to the left of “Lightweight and Fast”. I purchased all of the add ons, and would appreciate any help that won’t require any coding. So far I love the simplicity of the theme.

    Thank you for any help!
    Dave

    Hi Dave,

Those icons are using FontAwesome: http://fortawesome.github.io/Font-Awesome/icons/

In order to use these, you need to use HTML.

Unfortunately, WordPress doesn’t allow HTML in widget titles.

You may have luck using a plugin like this: https://wordpress.org/plugins/widget-icon/

    Let me know πŸ™‚

    Hi Tom,

Thank you very much for your very quick and informative reply. I just wrote up a glowing review and highly rated the wonderful theme. OK, so I watched a short video on Font-Awesome and learned how to copy and paste the code in order to place an icon into the widget body text. How can I use HTML to get the Font-Awesome icon into the widget header. Is it difficult and a lengthy process? I think I am slowing learning this web stuff! πŸ™‚

    Thanks,
    Dave

    Thanks!

There should be ways to make WordPress accept HTML in widget titles, however they will probably involve some custom PHP.

Your best bet is to use this plugin: https://wordpress.org/plugins/widget-icon/

It looks like it allows you to choose an icon to go next to your widget title, so you don’t have to worry about adding the HTML.

Let me know if it works for you or not πŸ™‚

Thank you Tom, I greatly appreciate your help! I added the plugin, took me a little while to find where the settings were, and then it worked out like a charm. If you are interested, take a peek:

I feel like my 20 year dormant web design skills are starting to come alive, and it happened with the GeneratePress theme and of course your help. πŸ™‚
