Accessibility "role" in menu items.

We were testing a new site for accessibility and found this oddity coming up on some tests.
"buttons with element functionality should be tagged for assistive technology"
On installing the WAVE tool into our browser, it showed none of the menu items have a role. Is there an easy way to add that?

The menu items are handled by WordPress, GP doesn't control how its HTML gets outputted, unfortunately.
