a section with two column having different backgrounds

Hi Tom,
I want to make a section where it has two columns.
1. first column will contain a text and some call to action button.
2. 2nd column will contain a featured image of a blog post from a category.
I know everything is possible. But I don't know how to execute this. Can you please help me?

Only one problem, is it possible that I put background on it? And I wanted to call posts from a category.
I also encountered that if I make, for example 2 columns, the other column is not in-line with the first column.
You would have to use CSS to change background colors etc..
If you want to display posts in columns, WP Show Posts might be worth looking at.
As for the alignment, make sure there's an empty line between the ending and starting column shortcode.
