So I am looking to import a demo site, did not know you cant do this unless your site is brand new with no content! Is there way to go about this and just keep all the blog posts I have already written? Thanks

    Hi there,

For sure, you’ll just need to manually delete any content imported by the demo: https://docs.generatepress.com/article/removing-imported-site/

Deleting things like imported posts/pages/media shouldn’t take too long at all.

Just be sure to take a backup of your site first.

Let me know if you need more info ๐Ÿ™‚

    Thanks for the fast reply,

So your saying when it asks me to load the content from the demo site I should say yes and then after go and delete the imported stuff?

Second question, how do I backup my site?

3rd Question, this will now way affect the other plugins? I have Thrive apprentince on my site with a course and 30 members save under users.

    Thanks for all the help!

Which site are you importing? It’s possible that you won’t need to do the content step at all.

For site backups, this plugin works great: https://en-ca.wordpress.org/plugins/updraftplus/

It shouldn’t, but let me know which site you’re importing and we’ll figure out the best route to take ๐Ÿ™‚

I was doing wordsmith. I tried it a couple times without downloading the content but I could not figure out the header area etc. I deleted your theme and plugin and then reinstalled again.

Deleting and reinstalling will that eliminate any possible changes that I made when it was installed? I dont want anything left from before when I was messing around with it.

    Sorry to be a pain!

I like the idea of your theme for the speed. I could easily build a site with Thrive architect but I think that will slow it down.

Deleting the plugin doesn’t remove any settings or content, so the options you imported will still be there.

Wordsmith is a pretty simple site. It has 5 pages and 4 posts, which would be easy for you to delete after the import.

The process does set the front page to the imported page, so you’d need to reset your front page option in Settings > Reading.

It also imports the menus, so you’d need to go into Appearance > Menus to delete the imported ones and set your existing menu to the theme locations.

As for plugins, I’m not seeing that will cause any conflicts. They can all be removed once you import.

Basically, you’d want to remove all of the content from the import except for the “Elements”, which include the Page Heros.

Does your existing site have heavy traffic? If so, perhaps it would be better to test the process on a staging site.

So if I deleted your theme and plugin is it like I never uploaded in the first place?

My site has no traffic at the moment.

I really just want to start over but I want to keep my pages and posts and thrive plugin. Could u see my site and let me know the best way to start over?

    Hi there,

i would work on a clone of the Site – or create a staging environment. Export my pages / posts / media that i want to keep. Then perform a Reset on the site using something like WP Reset plugin. Load your theme and plugins etc. and then re-import the content. That should ensure you have a clean install behind your content.

How do I export my pages/posts/media? When you do the reset does it also kill the users and plugins on the site?

    Dashboard > Tools > Export.
WP Reset wipes the database so all content / users etc. would be removed…. so maybe not the right solution.

Your Site is on a Coming Soon – can you unlock and let us see?

I removed it so its visible. Everytime I try to do something in elements it does not save it.

OK so it looks like your back to the default GP Site = let me know.

So what are you trying to add in Elements? And are you setting the Display Rules for the element?

    @david

Question for you…When I am creating a header why do you NEED to put something in the css section if you only want to add a custom image?

I have to add a word in te section above add my custom image hit update and then delete the work to reomve it from my image?
