I used a child theme back in olden times when I was using Standard Theme, but now I have no recollection of how that works, and I suspect I ought to be doing that for my GeneratePress site now…but I’m not.
Can you point me in the direction of how to do that? I want to be able to update GeneratePress without losing my settings. Thanks!
Or will using the “Export” under “Settings/GeneratePress” basically give me the same net effect? I’m trying to keep this simple, but also do it right…I want to get back to the business of writing while also being sure I’m set up right for the future. http://laughterisaleap.com

Weird – swear I replied to this yesterday.
Any customizations made through the Customizer will never be lost, unless you delete them. Updates will never touch those.
The only customizations an update will remove are file changes to the core files of the theme.
So, if you’re wanting to add custom CSS and PHP functions, a child theme is a good idea.

Thanks for the clarification. Given my non savvy-ness with code, I’m staying away from custom CSS and certainly from PHP modifications, so I think I’ll stay away from the child theme for now.

I am currently using the Freelancer theme. Every page has a “comment” section at the bottom. We do not want that, or any comment or blog section. How do we get rid of it?

I tried that and I have unchecked everything on that page. But there is no check-box that says simply “Allow Comments”.
On every page there is a section at the bottom that is to allow everyone to post a comment. We love the theme but absolutely do not want the comments section at the bottom.
Thank you for your help and would like to buy you a cup of coffee when we get this part fixed.
