Daniel
Today I installed GP Premium on a second site. On this second site, I went to Layout>Primary Navigation so that I could enable navigation search as I did on my first site. When I clicked on the check box to enable this feature I could see the menu shift over to make room for the search icon, but it isn’t visible/usable.
At this point, I checked my first site to compare settings. When I went to Layout>Primary Navigation it had a dropdown menu to enable Navigation Search. Out of curiosity, I went to the dropdown menu on the first site (that works correctly) and after selecting disable the dropdown menu disappeared for enabling Navigation search and was replaced by a checkbox. When I clicked on the checkbox that took its place I could see the menu shift over to make room for the search icon, but it wasn’t visible. At that point, I backed out of the customization area without publishing the changes and thankfully everything went back to normal.
However, this doesn’t change the fact that my new installation is unable to have the Navigation Search added.
Both sites are using theme 3.3.0 and GP Premium 2.3.0.
Please advise.

Hi Daniel,
Do you have a staging/test site? If so, can you enable the Navigation Search there and share the link to it? We’ll check what’s occurring.
You may use the Private Information field for this: https://docs.generatepress.com/article/using-the-premium-support-forum/#private-information

I see. Can you provide admin login credentials so we can take a closer look?

That’s odd.
Can you try #1 here to debug: https://docs.generatepress.com/article/debugging-tips/
It’s recommended to backup your site before proceeding with this.

I tried #1 and even after disabling all the other plugins the problem persisted.
The result didn’t surprise me given the fact that on my site where Navigation Search works the dropdown menu to enable Navigation search disappears after selecting disable and is immediately replaced by a checkbox. As I initially said, after clicking on the checkbox that took the dropdowns place (on the site that is working correctly) I could see the menu shift over to make room for the search icon, but it wasn’t visible. (So I backed out of the customization area without publishing the changes to prevent those problems from occurring on that site too.)
Is there any way we could try rolling back the theme and plugin to an earlier version, Maybe from last fall when I initially purchased it to see if the problem still persists?

It is also worth pointing out that I just noticed on both sites that when I go to Appearance > GeneratePress if I activate a module and then try to click on the link to “open tools for this module” all it does is make two buttons/links appear that say “Reset” or “Export”. I don’t remember it working that way in the past.

StaffCustomer SupportHi there,
i see an navigation search icon in your menu but that is not the GP Themes navigation search, it looks like its from a different theme…. was there any custom code added in regards to a nav search at any time ?
If there was not, can you disable ALL caches so we can take a closer look ?

It was a plugin I was fooling around with Ivory Search that I was thinking about using until this gets resolved.
I have disabled the plugin and Navigation Search is still enabled on my site through Generate Press.
I haven’t added custom code in regards to a nav search.
I disabled caches when I tried disabling all the plugins, but I will disable caches again.
So the problem still persists.

This might be totally unrelated, but when I look at my downloads for GP Premium I have two licenses. Am I supposed to use a separate license code for each installation? I thought I could use the same one multiple times.
In any case, I was wondering if this might be part of the problem. So I tried using both licenses on my second site and both say that they work.
I just don’t know if this could be contributing to the problems in any way.

By the way, is the current/correct way to enable Navigation Search in Layout>Primary Navigation supposed to be from a dropdown menu or a checkbox? At this point, I am not sure what it is supposed to look like.

Hi,
I was coming here to search for the difference between navigation search and Enable navigation search modal and saw this. I have the same issue on two of my sites. One has navigation search with a drop down and the search icon is there and the other has Enable navigation search modal with a checkbox but no search icon shows up. Latest versions of GP and Premium.
Thanks

Exact same problem as mine. Sorry to hear that you are having the problem too, but I am glad to know I am not the only one.

I did do a clean install on a test site and the search works fine. The upgrade is the issue.
On the three sites, I checked the source code.
In the fresh install, I see this:
<a href="#"><span class="gp-icon icon-search">In the legacy search, I see this:
<span class="gp-icon icon-search">In the upgrade, there isn’t anything in the navigation for a search function.
I’m happy to give you access to the test site where it doesn’t work. I have nothing activated except GP and GP Premium.
Thanks,
Debra -
