Hanna
Hello! I want to create a recipe index for my blog that looks similar to this: https://smittenkitchen.com/recipes/. I am trying but having a lot of trouble figuring this out. The theme seems clunky and not very forgiving. Thanks for your help!

StaffCustomer SupportHi Hanna,
Can you show me what you’ve done so far?
And are those post tags or child categories?

I’m using the Tasty theme. I’ve adjusted the theme with colors, sizing, and formatting so far. I tried building the recipe index page today but kept stopping because I couldn’t figure out how to do what I want.
And I believe they are categories. When you click on a link on that main recipe page it take you to another page showcasing recipes of that category. Here’s an example: https://smittenkitchen.com/recipes/fruit/bananas/?format=list

StaffCustomer SupportHi there,
so that page would be a custom page in WordPress displaying a list of taxonomy ( categories or tags ) terms. Its not impossible to do but i need to understand the taxonomies you use on your site and how they are structured.
Are you using Categories and Tags ?
And if so , which ones and how are they structuredMarch 11, 2023 at 8:15 am #2564138Hanna
I don’t have anything set up yet, so I can use either! The Tasty theme has some categories set up but no tags yet. I’m open to using whatever works for the index page.

StaffCustomer SupportAre all your posts recipes?
I think you can use tags for the dish types (1st part):
https://www.screencast.com/t/P7N5S7O0nlGThen use categories for ingredient types, like fruits, meat, sweets, vegetables, etc.
https://www.screencast.com/t/zaJQ4tFxVjOThen create the child categories of fruits/meat/sweets/vegetables, etc.

They could be! I haven’t started creating yet. My plan is food blog with a podcast section as well. I’ll check those links out… thanks!

Hello,
Within the Tasty theme, is there a way to edit the tag archive page? I want the tag links to show up as either text or smaller images in the tag archive page. The default settings in Tasty make the tag archive page posts way too large for what I’m looking for. Thanks!

Hi Hanna,
Yes. You can modify how posts appear on Tag Archives through a Content Template. Reference: https://docs.generatepress.com/article/block-element-content-template/

Thank you for that resource! How do you build out an element for the a Tag Archive pages’ links, specifically? And could you please provide more instruction on how to translate that Content Template element to a Tag Archives page? I’m lost on that connection.

A Block Element – Content Template works for any archive page.
In the link, there’s this video showing an example of how to create a Content Template: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-ZTQP_KA2xE
Which specific text are you trying to alter in the Tag Archive page?

I watched the video on how to create a content template before, but how can you use it to actually edit an archive page since there’s no where to directly edit where clicking a tag takes you? That does not make any sense to me. I just want to make a recipe archive page for my readers.
The text and layout in the Tag Archive pages is too large and spread out right now as is.

Usually, tag links are dynamic.
You can use a Headline Block for this which has Dynamic features: https://docs.generateblocks.com/article/dynamic-data-options-overview/#link-source
An alternative to a Content Template is a Block Element – Loop Template which allows you to edit a Template more: https://docs.generatepress.com/article/block-element-loop-template/
