Manuel
I read a couple days ago in WPTavern that “WordPress contributors have updated the legacy default themes to bundle Google Fonts locally in the theme folder, instead of loading them from Google’s servers.”
Perhaps GeneratePress may want to do the same?

Hi Manuel,
Google Fonts can be hosted locally in GeneratePress. Relevant article: https://docs.generatepress.com/article/adding-local-fonts/
I’ll share this with our developers, however.
Thank you, Manuel!

Thanks. I tried to find the fonts MULI and Montserrat in the Helper Tool recommended in the article.
Muli is not there to download and get the CSS help etc.
I think I’ll wait until GP perhaps updates the templates with local fonts built-in.

Montserrat is in Google Fonts: https://fonts.google.com/specimen/Montserrat?query=montser
You can download it from there.
I found Muli here: https://www.fontsquirrel.com/fonts/muli
Hope these help!

The documentation in the link provided may need to be updated. The Google Font Helper referenced has moved to: https://gwfh.mranftl.com/fonts
I found Montserrat there but not Muli. Downloading Muli from Font Squirrel would make it a bit tedious not having the Woff etc. versions and the CSS needed. A little bit out of my comfort zone.
I think I will hope and wait to see if the designer of the Newsroom Template updates it to include the fonts locally, without users having to do it the hard way 🙂

StaffCustomer SupportHi Manuel,
Thanks for pointing out the URL issue, I’ve updated the documentation.
As for the Muli font, it’s been re-named to Mulish, you should be able to find it using the tool. For more info:

GP’s templates do NOT and will NOT have local fonts installed, at least in the near future.

OK. I will start to slog away at it.
What would you recommend as the most efficient way to add the CSS?
The Customizer or WPCode?

Adding it through Appearance > Customize > Additional CSS should be fine.

After experimenting a lot I’ve got Mulish and Montserrat working as local fonts in the Newsroom Template using WOFF and WOFF2.
Everything appears to be fine checking with various browsers and mobile etc.
What I cannot figure out is when editing a Page or Post in WP, everything is in what appears to be Times New Roman.

Fixed it using option 1 In David’s post: https://generatepress.com/forums/topic/local-fonts-not-showing-in-editor-2/#post-2243509

Thanks. I think you may want to consider adding these fixes to the Local Fonts Article.
