I am confused about what size images to upload to WordPress. I know I should only upload the largest size I need but what is that size?

StaffCustomer SupportHi Kelsey,
Looking at your homepage, the largest image size is 1600px in width and 400px in height 🙂

So should I upload all my images at that size or just the one I want to use on my homepage?

StaffCustomer SupportYour homepage hero image size is 1600px * 400px, and your single post featured image width is 792px.
So upload the hero image at 1600px in width, and post the featured image at around 792px.

How do you find those numbers? (so I know how to do it myself in the future)
If down the line I end up increasing the width of the sidebar in my posts, will my images be too large? Or vice versa and I end up decreasing the width of my sidebar, will my images be too small?
Also, if I want my images in my posts to be the same height, is it ok to change the height under settings after I upload them to a post? Or is that not recommended?
Lastly, do I need to change the default image sizes in Media Settings at all?
Sorry for all of the questions, thank you!

StaffCustomer SupportYou can use the developer tool by right click > inspect, then hovering over the element, you will see its size:

That’s possible. When you upload an image, WordPress will generates a series of images with different sizes, when you use the images, you can select which size to be used.

You can, the WP media library allows you to edit the image.

Do you mean the settings at settings > media? that’s the image size that WP will generate. Depends on your own needs. I don’t have specific recommendation for it.
