On the site I am working on using the NEWSROOM template it is calling home to: https://gpsites.co/newsroom/wp-content/uploads/sites/126/2021/04/education.svg’
I have searched background images in the customizer to kill it but no luck so far.
How do I turn it off?

Try adding a Background image in Appearance > Customize > Background Images > Body.
Then, remove it.
