    Hello,

I’m currently using GP Premium and GenerateBlocks free. I’m interested in switching to the Info theme, I find it has a very good layout. I’m a little bit shy to proceed because I’m worried to make a mess and not being able to revert to my current layout.
Are there some good and safe practices for the switch?

    This is my site.

    Thanks,

    Mario

    Hi there,

so the Sites in our Library are built for creating a brand new site that has no content.
But it is possible to install them on an existing site.

    1. The first and most important step is to create a Backup or Staging site that you can make the changes to without effecting your live site. Most hosting providers have a Staging option, check with them to find out more.

    2. Now all following steps will be performed on the Staging / Backup site.

    3. Import the Site from the Library including ALL content.

    4. The site import will have replaced:
4.1 Site Logos and Site identity that will need changing in Customizer > Site Identity.
4.2 And additional logo and branding if applicable in the Mobile Header in Customizer > Layout > Header.
4.3 Menus in Appearance > Menus will need swapping back to your original menu.
4.4 Widgets for sidebars and maybe footers will require updating if needed.

    5. Additional content will have been imported. You will want to keep the Home Page. As that has been built using GenerateBlocks. But all other posts, pages, media attachments and taxonomy terms you don’t need can be deleted.

    6. The Home page is built with many Query Loop Blocks. You will need to edit each Query Loop block and change its Parameters to show what you require eg. Taxonomy -> Category -> A specific term etc.

    7. Observe the entire site to see if there are any other fixes that making.

Once you’re happy with the look ask the Hosting company to push the Staging / Backup site to Live.
If you’re not happy and you don’t want to make the change then you can ask them to delete the staging site.

Thanks David for your detailed advice!
Unfortunately, I’m on wordpress.com (Business plan), therefore I have no way to get a staging environment…

Ah…. do they provide backups ?
    If they do:

    1. add a Maintenance Mode plugin and activate it.
    2. Make a Backup of the site.
    3. Then do the Site Import and make the changes.
    4. If all goes well you can remove the maintenance mode.
    5. … if it does not go well then restore the backup.
