Adrien
Hello,
I’ve just updated to 1.7 and suddenly I don’t know how to build up a website anymore 😉
Before the update, I my containers had inside width for content perfectly centered on the screen with a left and right padding.
Now when I create a container everything I full width. What did I miss? Also, I’m now pretty confused. If I use flex everywhere, do I still need grids? What are Grid for in the new flex grid system?
Thank you for your help. Adrien

Hi Adrien,
To clarify, did you update GB on your live site? We don’t recommend doing this as it’s still in testing.
We recommend testing it on staging/test sites.
You need to add an inner Container inside if you want a Contained Container. You’ll need to define a max-width for the inner Container as well. Reference: https://generateblocks.com/flexbox-sizing-tabs-accordions-more/?fbclid=IwAR3WoGWpRj24ER3nfZMru9FiniRP1KfmjwVeanInnS4FD8nkfOMTpIKuzPU#:~:text=How%20does%20this%20change%20affect%20me%20and%20the%20way%20I%20use%20Container%20Blocks%3F
As for Grids, it’s preferential on what helps you structure your site best. In some ways, Grids are easier to manage. For instance, you can easily alter Gaps with Grids.
In some ways, using flex Containers would be more effective.

Hello Fernando. Thank you for your reply.
All my GP sites using GP startup themes are built with a left and right side padding for the main container so that on mobile the text has left and right gap.
How to set this up in the new system?
Also I was always global style in which I had a container global style applying to all my website containers so that I could pass this 30px left and right padding for mobile.
Now when I convert all my global styles into the new system, it is adding a container inside my one container. So I don’t understand how to use global styles anymore for containers. Because of this nested container I need to give it another style name.
I completely lost right now. The transition is extremely hard for the newbie that I am.January 11, 2023 at 7:16 pm #2492213Adrien
Im not able to set the inner width of my container for my content.
I think the new update is going to drop all the newbies like myself behind. I am completely lost and in panic mode.

There shouldn’t be any reason for panic. It’s only for testing right now. It’s not meant to be used to build a site as of yet. We’ll also be updating the docs we have for these to assist everyone with regard to the changes.
Moreover, any Block you’ve already created with the current GB system shouldn’t be affected once the actual update comes out.
If you want to test it out and want to learn more, there are also already some testers who have created instructional videos for assistance on YouTube. Example: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CFU0MFJQTIE
We’ll be fully supporting these new features once they pass the testing phase and get released along with the update.

Thanks a lot Fernando for your support. It just feels like it’s a new Page Builder and I have to learn everything from scratch. I don’t know if I’m ready for that because I already spent 3 years trying to learn GP and now I don’t understand a single option anymore (wrapped, unwrapped, relative position…).
I don’t understand why a container should be nested into another container. Before we could set up the container inner width while the background remained full width. I don’t understand why we still have the Grid block.
When I open the sizing panel I can’t find any options for inner width.I understand it is a beta but I wanted to be ready for what coming and especially considering how important the changes are.

We’re not supporting it fully just yet because it’s still in the testing phase. I understand that you want to be ready but there’s no need to panic, we’ll be updating our articles soon enough for these. None of these changes should break your site.
An inner Container is needed to have a Contained Container because the Parent Container is full. This structure is the same as the current structure where it’s automatically added.
Change the max-width for the inner-width,
As for the Grid Block, It’s almost the same as Flex Containers. It depends on which you want to use.
Most of the changes are just additional features to allow you to control the structure of your site with no need for custom code anymore.
Once the update is released, we’ll be ready to assist everyone with the new features.

All right. Thank you Fernando. I give up at the moment on testing and I am rolling back to the official release.
I had tried to change the max-width to inner-width but all my content wasn’t centered on the page anymore but sticking to the right edge of the screen.Maybe we can have a Legacy GB builder that remains like before and have the new GB1.7 only for the people who want to. A bit like Gutenberg and the legacy editor.
I was mostly interested by the Tabs.
All the best
