I saw that there is a guide for adding fonts on generatepress.
I would like to know why this guide when it would be enough to use those of the Google Fonts API, simply by typing the name. what is the difference?

    Hi Francesco,

I am only another GP user, but I can tell you this: in some countries, like Germany, you are not allowed to use Google fonts except they are hosted locally. If I used the Google Fonts API, I would violate the GDPR law. Therefore I use the possibility to locally host Google fonts. In this case, there is no connection to the Google server, because I added the fonts locally and host them on the same server where the website is. To do this, there is the wonderful guide of GP how to do that 😉

So if generatepress by default opens sans with google api, would it be more appropriate to load open sans without the api? then download the font and upload it to wordpress?

    Hi Francesco,

basically it depends on. If you have no issue with using Google Fonts in your country, there is no need to host them locally, except it might be faster to load them if the fonts are used locally.

If there is a legal issue with using Google Fonts in your country, then definitely do the steps in the guide of Generate Press and install them locally.

    Does this help?

    Hi there,

    and thanks again Erika,

Apart from the GFDR issues of certain countries, loading a font locally can make big performance improvements to your site.
So i would recommend installing the font locally.
