I am looking into swapping over my existing WordPress Theme and Block Plugins to Generatepress & GenerateBlocks.

The existing theme seems quite slow and the layout keeps changing as the plugins and theme update.

Have used GeneratePress and GenerateBlocks on another site and was blown away by how well it performs.

Other than just diving in is there an optimal way of accomplishing this change, the best way of attacking the change?

    Hi there,

theres no defacto rules on how to go about it.
Looking at your site, i would approach it like so:

Split the rebuild in to Theme, GP Elements and Content.

    1. The Theme > Customizer should be responsible for:
    a. setting the base Colors and Typography. Where possible you will want to try and make sure the content uses the theme styles. For landing pages you may need to break from those conventions in the post editor, which is fine.
    b. setting up the Site Header and Navigation
    c. setting the sidebars or the no sidebar requirement.\
    d. for the footer i would probably forgo using the customizer and set the widgets to 0 and then use a Block Element to build it.

    2. GP Elements.
    a. i notice some pages require a full width layout. This can be set in the post editor using the Content Container meta box. But if there is some logic to it eg. ALL Pages are Full Width then use a Layout Element to set those.
    b. Block Elements – fromm the top down create any consistent theme template parts using Block Elements, such as Page Heros, Call to Action ( before footer ) and the Footer.

    3. Content
And that just leaves the fun part of rebuilding your content in GB.
I would approach that by creating any common layouts you have with some placeholder text, and then you can copy and paste those into pages and copy and paste in the original content.
If you use GB Pro then it has Local Pattern Library and Global Styles to help with that workflow.

    I hope that helps
