    Hi,

when I add Google fonts to the typography, are they loaded from Google? I can’t do this because of the DSGVO. And what about the google Font API? When I activate or deactivate this, what’s the difference?

    Kind regards,
    Anne-Barbara

    Hi Anne-Barbara,

yes, I think they are loaded from Google.
Simply install the Plugin OMGF (https://de.wordpress.org/plugins/host-webfonts-local/) or manually load the google Fonts locally will solve your GDPR/DSGVO-issue.

    Kind regards

    Hi Anne-Barbara,

when you select a font in the Customizer > Typography by default you will see the Use Google Fonts API Toggle is active. So that font will load from the Google Font API.

The plugin that Willhelm mentioned will download the font locally and disable the Google API.

If you don’t want to use the Plugin then:

    1. Follow this guide to install the fonts locally.
    https://docs.generatepress.com/article/adding-local-fonts/

    2. Select the google font in Customizer > Typography and Uncheck the Use Google Fonts API Toggle

Thank you! I think, I will use the Plugin first and later my IT-specialist will install the fonts I need on a child theme.

    Kind regards,
    Anne-Barbara

@david – you mention “Follow this guide…” in #post-2419473, but there is no link to a guide. We have manually, without a plugin, installed some fonts locally, but I would be interested whether there is a GB-specific way to do so…. actually I am a bit afraid that someone could, by accident, re-enable the remote fonts which could be an expensive mistake over here in Germany. I would like to limit the fonts offered to the user to those fonts that are installed locally

Oh, not sure what happened there, its there now, and here for good measure.

Removing Google fonts entirely, this doc provides the PHP Snippet for that:

    https://docs.generatepress.com/article/remove-google-fonts/

When adding your Local google fonts to the Customizer > Typography > Font Manager, you will need to manually type the font name in the field.

Great, that would make me feel better – thanks a lot! It is helpful that we now have this information linked to the keyword DSGVO for others searching for it.
Regards from Cologne, GERMANY ( where you might be forced to pay 150€ – or more, the sky is the limit – for using remote fonts without user consent …)
