John Paul
Where do I go to edit the layout for the posts, categories, and archives pages?
If I look at my posts page it’s basically blank. And if I preview it it redirects to the homepage. However, if I open the permalink for the page, it takes me to my actual “posts” page with all the recent posts.
Where do I go to edit the “posts” and categories page layouts/styles?

Hi John Paul,
The way to structure and design how posts appear in the Blog and Archive pages is through a Block Element – Content Template or Loop Template.

https://docs.generatepress.com/article/block-element-loop-template/For Single pages, they’re usually altered through Block Elements as well.

https://docs.generatepress.com/article/block-element-hook/There are also various layout settings for these three in the Customizer. Reference: https://docs.generatepress.com/article/blog-overview/
You’ll find videos in most of these links as well which should be helpful.

Thanks. I guess my problem is that I can’t find the Archive pages to edit. I can’t find what page to tweak to modify the blog “posts” page or the archive page or anything. If I go to what is designated to be the “posts” page, it doesn’t have any blocks in it and it has a different title & header than what you see if you go to the live url.
For my Categories pages, for instance, I don’t see where I can change the layout to not use a sidebar etc.
I’ll pass along some temp login credentials if that’ll help.

There are no archive pages to be edited in WP, as archive pages are index pages, they are generated automatically, and they can not be edited like static pages.

That’s correct, it should be an empty page.
If you want to customize the layout or style of the blog/archive pages, try creating a
block element - content template
, orblock element - loop template
.https://docs.generatepress.com/article/block-element-content-template/ (check the video to have a better understanding)
https://docs.generatepress.com/article/block-element-loop-template/ (require query loop block of GenerateBlocks plugin)November 17, 2022 at 11:59 am #2420301John Paul
Ahhh. And then you can apply that Element to all the Post Category or Post Archive pages using the Location settings in the Element? I think I see now.
