Louise
Hello! I seem to have broken my own website!
A couple of weeks ago I updated some pages and added a couple of new ones, just working out how to do it as I went along. All seemed fine.
I’ve just come back from my holiday and now the homepage comes up okay when I view the site, but when I use the menu, it can’t link to the pages. Just says error 404 url not found.
it also won’t update to the latest version of GP premium, it says authorisation failed.
My site analytics also say error, not a valid json response.
So I’m worried something has gone badly wrong.
Any ideas? I’m at a loss of how to get the menu working again or what everything else means.
Thanks so much, Louise

I’ve just found this message under site health. Would this be the reason? I’ve no idea what it means
The REST API encountered an unexpected result
Performance
The REST API is one way that WordPress and other applications communicate with the server. For example, the block editor screen relies on the REST API to display and save your posts and pages. When testing the REST API, an unexpected result was returned:

REST API Response: (404) Not FoundNovember 14, 2022 at 8:38 am #2415168Louise
My domain host said it may be to do with perma links but could give me no more info than that or any solution.

StaffCustomer SupportHi there,
go to Dashboard > Settings > Permalinks. And click Save Changes, this will rebuild those permalinks including the one for the REST API.
Cleare any caches afterwards.
IF that fails to work, go back to Settings > Permalinks again and check what is the Permalink Structure you have ?

Thanks David, I found the permalinks and changed it from custom to plain (based on a forum I read) which seemed to reconnect the menu. Was this the right thing to do?
But that seems to have brought up new site health issues – it says that I need to use pretty permalinks to use caching features? No idea what ‘pretty’ it as I can see nothing pertaining to that on the permalinks page.
It also says to flush permalinks (?) in relation to an authorisation header being missing, as well as page and object caches being missing.
So I’ve clearly created a wonderful array of new problems trying to solve the first one.
Sorry about this, but any advice welcome. thank you!

StaffCustomer SupportThats correct – but chance the structure to
Post name– that will pretty those links 🙂
Then if you have any caches clear those too.November 14, 2022 at 9:19 am #2415230Louise
Thank you so much, you work so hard and I think you are just brilliant. I’d be in a corner sobbing without you 🙂
Thanks David,
